WHAT IS FOREST BATHING?
AKA SHINRIN-YOKU OR NATURE AND FOREST THERAPY
ORIGIN
- shinrin-yoku was developed in Japan during the 1980s and has become a cornerstone of preventive medicine 
- shinrin-yoku means ‘taking in the forest atmosphere’ 
- shinrin-yoku is a research-based framework for supporting healing and wellness through immersion in forests and other natural environments 
PRACTICE
- a slow, purposeless nature walk of less than 2 kilometres with an average duration of 2 to 3 hours 
- focusses on sensory experiences, body sensations and interaction with the surroundings 
- activates the mind that comes to peace thus recovering the body 
- cultivates stillness, awareness and deepens the connection to the present moment 
- stimulates the imagination and creativity 
- disconnects from hectic life: unplug & reset 
- is beneficial in combination with yoga, tai chi, qigong, thermal springs or breathing exercises - THE FOREST IS THE THERAPIST,

- the guide offers a series of invitations which help you to slow down and activate your senses 
- the guide invites you to participate in down-to-earth experiences which restore the connection to yourself, nature and others 
- the guide is a supportive witness of these immersive experiences 
- the guide supports playfulness and self-healing 
- the ANFT guide follows a standard sequence as defined by the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy Guides and Programs 
- the ANFT guide is also certified in Outdoor First Aid and carries a first aid kit on the walks
